We're hiring engineers to build sovereign edge infrastructure that endures when everything else fails.
Mulga is a defense technology company building sovereign edge infrastructure for Australia, the United States, and allied forces. We deliver Mulga OS — a local-first execution layer that brings cloud-grade compute, storage, and networking to the tactical edge, where connectivity is denied, degraded, or contested. By combining distributed systems engineering, embedded AI, and AWS-compatible interfaces, Mulga enables mission software to deploy and operate on operator-owned hardware without cloud dependency. In an era where strategic competition demands persistent capability at the point of action, Mulga is building the infrastructure that endures when everything else fails.
Mulga is a binational team of engineers and operators, working between Australia and the US, building execution infrastructure for environments where failure is not an option. We design systems that survive interference, disconnection, and uncertainty — focusing on the primitives that matter: identity, isolation, execution, and control, done locally. Our team combines deep expertise in distributed systems, networking, and embedded AI, and we collaborate closely with partners across government, defence, and industry to deliver interoperable, secure, and sovereign technology.
We are looking for software engineers to join the Mulga team and help build the next generation of edge infrastructure for defense.
You will work across Mulga OS and our core platform components — including Hive (EC2-compatible compute), Viperblock (EBS-compatible block storage), and Predastore (S3-compatible object storage). These systems deliver AWS-style workflows on bare metal at the tactical edge, using DPU-accelerated networking, post-quantum encryption, and adaptive multi-path connectivity across fibre, 4G/5G, SATCOM, and HF radio.
This is hands-on, full-stack systems engineering — designing APIs, building distributed services, integrating with hardware, and shipping software that runs in disconnected, contested, and operationally demanding environments. You will work in a small, fast-moving team where your contributions directly shape the product and the mission.
Design, build, and ship distributed infrastructure services (compute, storage, networking) for edge and on-prem environments.
Develop and maintain AWS-compatible APIs and interfaces using Go, with components in Rust and Python.
Build and test systems that operate fully disconnected, on bare metal and ruggedised hardware.
Integrate AI/ML workloads as first-class mission capabilities on the Mulga OS platform.
Write clear documentation and contribute to a culture of test-driven development.
Ship fast — iterating in days, not months.
Engineering experience — Golang preferred. Candidates with Rust or Python experience are a bonus.
AI-first mindset — must have hands-on experience using Claude Code and AI agents for accelerating development and agentic workflows.
Cloud experience — AWS preferred. Deep understanding of how AWS services operate (EC2, VPC, S3, EBS) — we are building a lightweight AWS alternative for the edge.
Google Cloud, Azure, or bare-metal infrastructure experience is a bonus.
Test-driven development — writes unit tests as a matter of course and brings a test-first mindset.
Clear communicator — writes documentation that distills complex technical requirements into something actionable.
Comfortable working in a small team. Mulga is an early-stage startup (pre-seed funded). You will be a member of our 2-pizza team to ship, deliver, and win.
Deep systems experience, ability to lead technical direction and mentor junior engineers.
